Daily Itinerary
Day 1 Departure
Day 2 Dublin, Knock
We arrive in Dublin, and upon arrival, we will meet our tour guide and board our coach. We will visit Clonmacnoise, then continue to our hotel to check in and celebrate Mass at the Chapel in Knock. Return to the hotel for dinner.
Day 3 Leenane (Leenaun), Kylemore, Knock
Enjoy breakfast before we celebrate Mass. After Mass, we will drive to Westport and stop at the foot of Croagh Patrick, the mountain where St. Patrick is said to have fasted and prayed for 40 Days and 40 nights. Then, drive to Delphi or Doolough to Leenane. We will have lunch on our own. Then, arrive in Kylemore in time for lunch in the coffee shop, followed by a tour. Kylemore Abbey is an extravagant house on the edge of a lake built in the 1800s by a rich merchant for his beloved wife. Sadly, she died and never lived in the house. It has been a school for many years operated by nuns. They still live here, but now it is open to the public for visits. We will visit the lovely church. Dinner and overnight in Knock.
Day 4 Galway, Cliffs of Moher, Dublin
This morning, we depart Knock and head to Galway. We will have a walking tour of the city of Galway and celebrate Mass at the Galway Cathedral. Explore The Burren, an area of karst vegetation where the porous limestone has allowed the rain to flow through, creating a network of underground rivers, lakes, and waterfalls whilst the surface looks like the moon. There is an abundance of alpine and arctic flora living side by side, wonderful birds, and many prehistoric burial chambers, tombs, and Dolmens happily. Our last stop of the day is at the Cliffs of Moher, which are vertical cliffs that drop dramatically into the raging Atlantic below. Continue to Dublin, where we will check into our hotel for dinner and overnight.
Day 5 Dublin
After breakfast, we will depart the hotel and transfer to Pro-Cathedral to celebrate Mass. Stroll through Trinity College Dublin, founded by Queen Elizabeth I in 1592. Trinity has produced some of Ireland’s most famous writers, from Oscar Wilde to Nobel laureate Samuel Beckett. Visit St. Patrick's Cathedral, where Jonathan Swift was Dean when he wrote Gulliver’s Travels. St. Patrick’s Cathedral is the largest church in Ireland. Jonathan Swift, the author of Gulliver’s Travels, the first modern novel in the English language, was Deane of the Cathedral in the early 17th century. There are numerous objects dedicated to Swift’s memory in addition to his tomb, where Swift and his companion, Esther Johnson, ‘Stella’ are buried. Lunch is at leisure. Enjoy an afternoon visit to Guinness Storehouse to learn about the national black beer or to Teelings Distillery to learn more about Irish Whiskey. End the day at Johnnie Fox’s Pub for dinner and a show. Return to the hotel for overnight.
Day 6 Dublin, Glasgow
We walk to the Church this morning to meet Fr. Joe Mothersill and celebrate Mass. Walk back to the hotel, enjoy breakfast and prepare our luggage for departure. Transfer to Dublin airport and take our flight to Glasgow. Upon arrival in Glasgow, we will meet our new tour guide and transfer to St. Mungo’s Catholic Church in Glasgow for Mass. After Mass, we will have a panoramic tour of the city before continuing to the hotel for dinner and overnight.
Day 7 Glasgow, Edinburg
Enjoy breakfast at the hotel before checking out and driving to Edinburgh. We will visit Edinburgh Castle and then have a tour of Holyrood Distillery with a tasting. We will have lunch on our own before Mass at St. Mary’s Cathedral. Then, a visit to St. Giles Cathedral. Continue to the hotel for dinner and overnight.
Day 8 St. Andrews, Dunfermline Abbey
After breakfast, we will depart the hotel for St. Andrews. Upon arrival in St. Andrews, we will attend Mass at St. James Catholic Church. Then, we will spend time at St. Andrews Cathedral and St. Andrews Castle. Lunch at leisure before departing St. Andrews. We then visit Dunfermline Abbey. The Benedictine Abbey of the Holy Trinity and St. Margaret was founded in 1128 by King David I of Scotland, but the monastic establishment was based on an earlier foundation dating back to the reign of his father King Máel Coluim mac Donnchada, i. e. “Malcolm III” or “Malcolm Canmore” (regnat 1058-93), and his queen, St. Margaret of Scotland. Depart Dunfermline and return to the hotel for dinner and overnight.
